WHAT IS AKPABIO STILL DOING IN THE NDDC?

WHAT IS AKPABIO STILL DOING IN THE NDDC?

With reports that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio has directed the immediate recall of all staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who sent on compulsory leave, in April 2020, I cannot but wonder and ask why is Akpabio still left as the Minister of the Niger Delta Ministry to oversee the affairs of the NDDC? What are the intentions of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Government to have left Akpabio to continue to interfere in the affairs of the NDDC? Especially with the controversies, allegations, counter-allegations and all the absurdity that were exposed some weeks as regards the financial recklessness in the NDDC.

Truth be told, a responsible and serious-minded leader who means well for the people of the Niger Delta, particularly one who has supposedly taken a stand against corrupt practices in the country, should be seen to always timely take aggressive positions on issues of this nature in the public space. But it is really sad and rather unfortunate that up till now, with all the atrocities that has happened in the NDDC, Akpabio is still left by Mr. President, to keep causing more damages in the Commission.

I still maintain, like I had done before, that President Buhari should be held accountable for the current wrongdoings in the NDDC. Why is the President still allowing the NDDC to be manipulated by Akpabio?

What is Akpabio still doing in that Ministry? Why can't the President assign Akpabio to other Ministries/Federal Government Departments? The noise on Akpabio and the NDDC is getting too much. And the controversies and allegations surrounding them is not something that should be treated with kid gloves. If it were in other developed and civilized climes, someone in Akpabio's shoes would have honourably resigned. But in Nigeria, where politicians who have taken politics as their career, are without shame, and would prefer to die in the public space because of what they are benefitting.

Also, why are our youths and activists of the Niger Delta not consistently demanding that the President should remove Akpabio from the Ministry of the Niger-Delta? Why is the Niger-Delta Ministry still supervising the NDDC? Everything about this issue is wrong on all sides, and should be addressed.
