THE WICKEDNESS OF THE SOUTH SOUTH POLITICAL LEADERS
These are pictures showing the worsening level of poverty being experienced daily by our South-South people. One of the pictures are houses being occupied by individuals and families in one of the major oil & gas communities in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State, which I personally took on Wednesday 5th August, 2020. And the only thought that occupied my mind, is how insensitive, mindless, wicked and heartless the political leaders of the South-South region have been towards their people in the last two decades and still counting.
These are pictures that simply exhibits the life of suffering, poverty and lack, daily experienced by the locals of the oil and gas South-South areas who are bearing the brunt of the extractive industry. The same industry that is responsible for feeding the economy of the South-South States and the country as a whole, as well as the stupendous, affluent and luxurious lives being enjoyed by the so-called Politicians and Elites of the South-South region. They live in their mansions, while they also acquire other mansions across choice locations in the country and overseas; drive the state-of-the-art cars, and spend money like there is no tomorrow. Yet, all around them are pictures of poverty, lack, suffering and anguish being experienced by the very people they were supposedly elected or appointed to govern and cater for respectively. What a shame!
This has been the major and only problem with us in the South-South, where the wickedness of our South-South leaders who are only known for using our collective wealth for their personal gain, has become the norm and order of the day. All the funds ever budgeted for, and allocated to the Federal Ministry of the Niger-Delta, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the 13% derivation, have been turned into their personal money which they use as they like. And they do this with reckless abandon and impunity.
The only reason for these South-South Politicians being in Government, is never to SERVE their people, but to steal our collective public wealth, and become 'emergency billionaires' overnight. Our Political leaders and elites in the South-South are simply damn wicked and heartless. How can they be so Greedy and Selfish that they have allowed hundreds of millions of the locals in the region to be living in such poverty-stricken environment that is without electricity, good roads, portable water and other basic amenities?
My only anger in all of this however, is the fact that even the South-South Elites/followers, rather than be angered by this level of wickedness exhibited by the so-called Political leaders, they have instead, continued to encourage this same Political leaders to enslave them the more, and then say God will judge and answer them. When will our people stop singing the praises of these evidently corrupt South-South Politicians, and start shaming and even stoning them for all the atrocities they have committed against them and their South South unborn generations?
It is a sad tale, and an unfortunate situation that the gross level of underdevelopment in the South-South areas of the Niger-Delta region, is caused by the same people, and not by the South-West, South-East and the Northern politicians. How long are we going to continue like this as a people, and then keep praying and hoping that one day things will get better? Things will only get worse if they continue on this destructive path as a people. Development, of any kind and at any level, does not happen by mere wishful thinking. It can only happen when we are DELIBERATE about achieving it, and it will reflect in our actions. It is high time we start calling our Political leaders to answer and be accountable for all the funds left in their care as custodians, meant for the development of our communities. It is high time we start telling them the truth to their faces, and not allowing them take us for a ride. Enough is enough of this nonsense! If we don't say no to these rubbish being dished to our people by the South-South Politicians, they will continue to lord it over us and the future of the South South children will only become more bleak.
