BEFORE VENEZUELA, NIGERIA ALREADY LOST IT’S SOVEREIGNTY
-By Zik Gbemre
I am surprised at Nigerians, including the very informed debating why the Nigerian Government, particularly President Bola Tinubu, are silent over the United States (US) under President Donald Trump undermined Venezuela's sovereignty to invade and arrest Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro and wife to the United States.
Why would anyone expect a President Tinubu who couldn't address Nigerians on the situation when Trump's US military strikes in Sokoto on Christmas day 2025 to open his mouth on the situation in Venezuela?
Tinubu couldn't rant about anything of both situations. Before Venezuela, Nigeria already lost its Sovereignty when US without Tinubu's promoting or consent, bombs terrorists in Sokoto hideouts.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar lied when he claimed the US military took permission from Tinubu's APC led administration before the strikes in Sokoto, Nigeria' hub of Islamic propagation.
Trump doesn't trust Tinubu and Nigerian military, so no permission was taken from Tinubu and his military before America's military strikes that destroyed bases of Boko Haram, bandits, Fulani herdsmen in Sokoto.
The US military took everyone by surprise for targeting Sokoto in the North West of Nigeria instead of Borno state in the North East. Till date no one knows where US strikes in Sokoto took off from.
Why is it now, following the US strikes that the Nigerian military has become active that they claim recapture of Gwoza, a mobile police training school in Borno state attacked and taken over by Boko Haram since August 2014 in an attack that 35 police officers were declared missing.
Trump and the US military are needed to end killings by boko haram, bandits, Fulani herdsmen. The silence of President Tinubu for not making any official statement on the American military strikes in Sokoto is questionable.
We should also remind Tinubu and co on what has happened in Venezuela will only be avoided in Nigeria when there is good governance and security of Nigerians are guaranteed in a democratic society. It is shameful those politicians and elites in government turned blind eye on bad governance.
The Venezuelans are jubilating for arrest of Nicolas Maduro and wife. If he was a good leader of his people there won't be jubilating. Tinubu and his people should learn from Venezuela experience.
Some Venezuelans have fled their country to Doral city of Miami in Florida, US which consists about 40% of population of that city because of draconian laws to suppress the voice of critics, just as the Nigerian Police Cyberime Centre under CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry are enforcing fabricated cyberstalking, cyber intimidation, cyber bullying offences to force critics into police custody for daring to criticise some politicians and elites in the Nigerian society.
The Venezuela situation results from Maduro inclination to sustain the oppressive leadership entrenched by late dictator, Hugo Chavez which weaponised poverty to control the people and suppress dissents with iron fist.
It will not be well with any tyrant reigning over his people, including Nigeria. If it has to take US, the world's Police to intervene, so be it.
