THE SIMPLE THING PRESIDENT BUHARI HAS REFUSED TO DO

I have always wished President Muhammadu Buhari a good health and the right frame of mind to enable him govern Nigeria and its citizenry well as he ought to. I still remember how, sometime ago, the President was quite ill that he had to be flown out to the UK for his proper medical treatment. Though, it took some months, and some Nigerians thought he was dead, but we thanked God for his recovery and he returned from the UK to Nigeria.

However, I must say that I was surprised, and I am still surprised, that the President does not deem it proper to order for the establishment of the kind of hospital he was treated in the UK, be duplicated at least in the nation’s capital Abuja, for the improvement of health care in the Presidential villa. And also avoid his frequent travels to the UK for such health care treatment. I really do not see what is difficult in doing this? If he was able to locate the hospital in the UK for his every now and then treatment, then what is preventing him from asking the owners of the hospital to have same established in Abuja, instead of always travelling there for treatment? What is difficult in this?

What does it take to establish that same kind of hospital in the UK, with the same modern health facilities, right in Abuja, the nation’s capital? This is to enable Nigerians and top government officials to have access to such state-of-the-art health facilities and treatment in the country, without having to travel all the way to the UK. We have the wherewithal, resources and technical support to make this become a reality in Nigeria. Nigeria is also blessed with the best brains in the medical fields across the world. So, what exactly is stopping the President from making this happen? Especially when Mr. President had promised Nigerians during his election campaign, that he was going to stop government officials from going for medical care abroad. The President cannot be seen to be the one that is breaking this promise more than others.

More so, which foreign developed country treats its leaders in another country? Is President Buhari and the Nigerian political leaders not ashamed of this pathetic situation? What does it take to ask the owners of the UK hospital where he went for treatment, to establish same hospital in Abuja? It is a very simple thing to do. One does not need any tasking of the brain to do this. The President will not be doing something different or difficult, other than just ask them, and facilitate the process to have the said hospital established in Abuja. What the Federal Government of Nigeria have spent so far on the President’s medical bills, as well that of other top Government officials, is more than what I believe would be required to have the same hospital he was treated in the UK, established in Abuja.
