THE NEED FOR THE DELTA GOVERNOR TO RIGHTLY DIRECT THE STATE PROSECUTORS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES  NOT TO ABUSE THEIR POWERS IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE STAY-AT-HOME TOWARD ESSENTIAL SERVICES' PROVIDERS

While we acknowledge the efforts of the Delta State Government in its proactive measures to contain the possible spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the State, with its Stay-at-home directive, even though things could have been handled a lot more better; however, there is need for the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to rightly instruct and direct the State Prosecutors under the Criminal Justice Administration Sector, as well as the relevant Law Enforcement Agencies like the Nigerian Police Force that are meant to enforce the Stay-at-home order, to apply caution and not abuse their powers, especially toward essential services' providers, while discharging their duties.
This advice to the Delta State Governor has become apparent, owing to the several cases and incidents of the gross abuse of powers, particularly by law enforcement officers on our roads, toward the public, including those who provide essential services to ameliorate the pains experienced by the public as a result of the said lockdown.
We all know what are the essential services, which are food, water, medicines, power supply, network providers, etc. These are daily need that people cannot do without if they would survive this trying period of the Coronavirus situation which has led to the lockdown. People must eat and drink water, and also have access to get medical care, since it is apparent that the Delta State Government does not really care for the people and how they would survive in the lockdown. Apart from taking steps to contain the Coronavirus disease, the Delta State Government has done little or nothing in providing relief packages for the people ordered to sit at home. As such, there is need for the relevant authorities in government concerned and the Police, to be advised to apply caution in enforcing the order.
Since the essence of the lockdown  is to prevent possible spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and to avoid deaths, the Government should not with its prosecutors and law enforcement agencies further make life unbearable for the people. Just precisely on Monday 6th April 2020, a man collapsed and died around Warri Igbudu Market out of depression, after buying tomatoes and pepper. The truth is, there is poverty everywhere. People are going through so much stress and hardship already, that a supposed Government should not make their lives a lot more difficult as it already is. In the name of abiding by the lockdown and social distancing. People are hungry, and it is only a man that has food and water in his belly, that would be in the right frame of mind to obey any of such directive from the Government. The majority of the public live on 'daily struggling', hence caution should be taken in enforcing the lockdown by the Delta State government of Okowa.
As for Governor Okowa and his politicians, they have more than enough to eat and drink during the said lockdown, and also throughout their lives. But what about the majority of the people who do not have such luxury of guaranteed one square meal a day? How are they expected to survive? It is even sad to note that it is the public's wealth, meant to provide basic amenities and infrastructure for all, is what the politicians have taken as their private wealth to live in luxury and splendor.
Again, it will be difficult for someone that is hungry to obey the said lockdown or the social distancing. The setting up of the Mobile Courts, will only lead to the abuse of power by the State Prosecutors and the Police, if care is not taken. There are many people on essential duties hence the State Governor and its agencies should be advised accordingly, so that the purpose of the lockdown is not abused by the Police and the State Prosecutors.
