TAIGA GOOFED AS UPU PG
The headquarters of UPU is and still located in Okere Road, opposite the Post Office Warri. It shares boundary with foremost UPU founding hero, Chief Mukoro Mowoe.
Under Taiga as President-General (PG) UPU, this all important UPU headquarters building was unkempt, dilapidated with a hanging signpost, shameful site to behold entire Urhobo people.
Uvwiamuge House is a cultural centre for the UPU which is also serving as a Conference Hall. Uvwiamuge is not the headquarters of UPU. Taiga neglected the building. He could not even paint it appropriately to befit the status of UPU Secretariat.
Is Taiga not ashamed to see the ugly sight of the UPU headquarters building in Okere Road Warri? Some of the UPU Secretariat and headquarters building louvres are broken. Weeds have overgrown in the whole premises looking like an abandoned property.
They did some painting in the building recently but nothing thorough. The entire premises of the UPU Secretariat is unkept and untidy as at of today, 13th December 2022.
Under Taiga, the Urhobo Day was cancelled on flimsy excuse of Covid-19 whereas the UPU Cultural centre/conference hall can accommodate over 2,500 persons. He could have held the Urhobo day and comply strictly with Covid-19 restrictions by reducing attendance for every kingdom/clan for social distance to be represented by three persons.
This he didn't do at all. Urhobo was reduced under Taiga who now collaborated with Okowa to impose a faceless Ese Gam as PG UPU with alleged cash inducement. What a shame! So, Urhobo has been debased to a level an individual who does not resonate the Urhobo people.
In the structure and legacy bequeathed by Mowoe, there was organised grooming in which a succeeding UPU PG would have grown through the ranks in active duties on UPU leadership, understudy the top executives before aspiring as PG.
Aside that, the individual would have a robust history of contribution, compassion and commitment to Urhobo common good. How many Urhobos know this Ese Gam that Okowa and Taiga imposed on UPU?
Urhobo has not had it so bad as the oldest socio-cultural organisation in Nigeria. The Urhobo traditional rulers should hand off UPU. Agreed they are ceremonial heads of every clan/kingdom that take directives from any sitting Delta governor.
They are appointed by state governors and given staff of office by state governors. The traditional rulers can be sacked by state governors but the PG of UPU can't be sacked by a Delta governor. The PG UPU is the unifying head of all Urhobo people and not the traditional rulers who are appointees of a sitting Delta governor.
