SCRAP GROUND RENTS IN FCT, ANYWHERE IN NIGERIA
I think 'Ground Rents' are outdated in the 21st century and it is time to end it in Nigeria.
The term 'ground rent' is obsolete and no longer in fashion. All these duplicated rents, levies and taxes should be scrapped in all the states and Federal Capital City of Nigeria.
The 'ground rents' are awkward and only fashionable in the stone age era. We should get it right that the title of 'ground rents' should be abolished.
What are they doing with all these taxes, levies, royalties and revenues from the oil and gas? The roads are hardly maintained.
No electricity, no functional public hospitals, no functional railway system that is connecting the swamps/creeks communities to the upland cities and towns.
Insecurity is worsening by the day. Every day, we hear of bank robberies, kidnapping, killing of police officers and military officers, yet they collect all these supposed taxes/'ground rents' that end up in pockets of politicians.
'Ground rents' are causing 100% increase of rents in Abuja, Lagos, Port- Harcourt and Warri. The burden of 'ground rents' is on the tenants who pay high house rents and cause further hardships.
Why should landlords pay tenement rates and the same time pay ground rents? Is that reasonable at all? The 'ground rents' are extortion of money from landlords.
Ground rents are duplication of tenement rates. Tenement rates are appropriate and not 'ground rents'. Scrap 'Ground Rents'.
