PRESIDENT BUHARI'S LED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS CAUSED MORE HATRED, BITTERNESS, DIVISION AND DISUNITY BETWEEN THE SOUTHERN, MIDDLE BELT AND THE NORTHERN NIGERIA

It is sad to note that since the inception of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal administration, his body language, disposition and indifferent attitudes towards some of the pressing issues affecting other parts of the country apart from the North, is absolutely very unhealthy, and a recipe for catastrophe because it only breeds disunity, animosity and suspicion amongst the Nigerian populace. From his response to the increasing insecurity situation in the country, to his style of governance and appointment of senior government officials in the Presidency and in the armed forces of Nigeria. Sometimes I wonder if those around President Buhari, have reminded him that he was supposedly elected to govern the entire country as his constituency, and not only the people from the North Nigeria.

The one that troubles me most is the insecurity situation in Nigeria, which is a serious cause for alarm because practically on a daily basis, countless (recorded and unrecorded) Nigerians are being slaughtered/killed/maimed and chased/displaced out of their natural homelands within the country. The supposed Fulani Herdsmen, as well as the Boko Haram sect, have been reigning havoc on poor innocent Nigerians, and President Buhari’s obvious failure to tackle this problem, including the issue of banditry and kidnapping, is one that greatly troubles the minds of Nigerians. A sincere leader whose duty is to take the whole country and its citizenry as ‘his constituency’, should not be practicing gross nepotism in high proportion. A sincere leader will have empathy for the people he is governing, especially when they are being killed like animals by insurgents. How can the President be comfortable with all that is happening under his reign in Government? For instance, rather than call to order, the Fulani herdsmen that are killing Nigerians and causing serious problems for farmers, especially in the middle-belt parts of the country, President Buhari and his Federal-led Government prefer to rehabilitate, re-engage and pamper these insurgents in the face of increasing insecurity, which has continued to stunt the nation’s developmental strides and painting us negatively amongst the International Community of nations.

Never have we seen a President and those around his Presidency, who are so dispassionate, without empathy, unconcerned, unbothered, and indifferent to the sufferings, pains, agonies and traumatic experiences daily faced by the very people he was elected to govern, like we have seen demonstrated by President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly in his disposition and body language over the rampaging onslaught by suspected Fulani Headsmen/bandits/kidnappers and the Boko haram insurgents, against Nigerian farmers and citizens, especially those in North-Central and Southern Nigeria.

It is appalling to note how President Buhari have not demonstrated the expected anger, vigour, focus, courage and sense-of-direction and precision that is required of any Commander-In-Chief of a Federal Republic like Nigeria, in holistically addressing this man’s inhumanity against his fellow human being in the name of herdsmen. The President has also not shown any iota of sympathy and empathy for Nigerians he was supposedly elected to govern/lead, and whose family members, friends, neighbors and fellow-citizens have suffered grievous loss in the hands of these rampaging suspected criminally-minded persons.

If the cattle rearing practice by Fulani herdsmen have become a thorn in the flesh of Nigerians, why can’t the President Buhari-led Federal government stop the Fulani herdsmen from parading their cattle all across the country? Is that how they rear cattle in other parts of the developed world? All over the internet are pictures and videos of troubled Nigerians beholding the invasion of cattle on Nigerian roads and farmlands. And the Presidency sees nothing wrong with this. How does the President want the rest of Nigerians view them and Northerners, when nothing is done to address these concerns? The President’s disposition in this regard, and that of his administration, has caused nothing but more hatred between Muslims and Christians, especially because of his failure to address the killings of Christians in Northern parts of Nigeria, and the freedom given to Fulani herdsmen to operate as they like in the Middle-belt and Southern parts of the country.

I have always been the one who believe in a united Nigeria, regardless of its troubles and diversities that are daily trying to break it apart. This is basically because a united Nigeria where ‘good governance is seen to be entrenched in all ramifications, is more beneficial to all and sundry considering the fact that a whole lot of Nigerians have settled and invested in places other than their original ancestral land. But with the way the President Buhari-led Government have been acting, I doubt if he really wants this country to remain in peace.  One thing is certain, the disposition, body language and actions of the present Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari, as the Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, are suggestive of a Government that is, either practically clueless as to how to address the seemingly intractable problems facing the nation, or they are simply comfortable with the statuesque, and even encouraging it, in satisfying their self-driven agendas.

Before President Buhari was supposedly elected President of Nigeria, Christians and Muslims were living as brothers and sisters to a large extent. And this was also evident between the Southern, middle belt parts of Nigeria and northern Nigeria – there was some great level of ‘tolerance’ and ‘accommodation’ of one another as citizens of the country. But with President Buhari’s failure to stop the killings, and his nepotism and favouritsm style of governance, Nigerians from these parts of the country now have divided opinions and politicians are capitalising on this to cause more havoc. It is Buhari’s responsibility to secure lives and property in Nigeria as the Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. No one placed a gun on Buhari’s head to seek to be elected as President. And so, there should not be any excuse.

Governance is not all about holding on to political power to rule the people without showing signs of empathy and love towards the very people one is elected to govern. When a Government cannot guarantee the security and safety of his citizens, and also not able to guarantee true social justice and equity amongst the people; then those in such a Government should have no business in being there any longer in the first place.  We believe it is the responsibility of President Buhari to show love and concern to the wellbeing of every Nigerian irrespective of his/her tribe, religion or political affiliations. As the President of Nigeria and the First Citizen of the country, President Buhari should be seen to demonstrate love and be concerned about what happens to all tribes, just the same way he has demonstrated loves towards his Fulani tribe and kinsmen.
