PICTURES OF POVERTY ALL AROUND THE SOUTH-SOUTH IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION
There is hardly anywhere in the South-South of the Niger-Delta region that one does not behold disheartening pictures which show the severe and disturbing level of poverty and deprivation in the region. One then begins to wonder how has the 13% derivation, the Federal Ministry of Niger-Delta and the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC), have impacted the lives of the locals in the oil and gas producing communities in the region, especially the South-South areas?
Despite their dereliction of statutory roles as custodians of our collective patrimony, the South-South politicians on the one hand, are busy making so much noise just to get attention for themselves, families and fronts, and satisfy their selfish interests and not the interest of the locals. The pictures here are samples of the sort of houses currently occupied by some locals in the major oil & gas producing communities of Iwhrekan and Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South LGA of Delta state.
I personally snapped these pictures today August 8th, 2020. And that is the nature of some of the houses currently occupied by locals in these areas, and other parts of the South-South areas. One begins to wonder if these areas actually have leaders in Government, and if they are part of the South-South areas of the Niger-Delta region meant to be developed by the NDDC and the Federal Ministry of the Niger Delta Ministry. How long are we going to allow this broad day light robbery of our collective wealth, to continue in the region? Who will come to the rescue of our people, and save them from the clutches of these public thieves in the public space? When will the South-South areas be transformed to look like other oil and gas producing areas across the world? God help us!
