ON THE SECOND WAVE OF COVID-19, AND THE QUESTION OF THE ACTUAL EXISTENCE OF THE VIRUS – THE NEED FOR THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT TO AVOID A COPY-AND-PASTE APPROACH BUT TO ASK PERTINENT QUESTIONS AND HONESTLY DISCLOSE THE REALITIES ON GROUND
I have always noted that there is more to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic than what China and most of the Governments across the world, including Nigeria, are letting their citizens know. Everything about the Covid-19 disease since it broke out late last year, and ravaged through the year 2020, is wrapped with a lot of gimmicks, controversies, antics, dishonestly unverified protocols, all of which the relevant authorities are forcing on the people to become our new ‘realities’ of life.
It is even worse in this part of the world, where all we have been doing in Nigeria, is more ‘REACTIONARY’ than proactively. Our Nigerian Government, since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, have been doing more of copying and pasting in Nigeria, EVERY RESPONSE/ACTION and Step taken by those in developed countries like the UK and US, without any questions asked, or whether what we are copying and pasting is actually done in our best interest or not. Many of us are aware of how the lockdown and all the Covid-19 protocols, which the Nigerian Government copied from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the developed countries of the West, had had on the country’s economy and the lives of Nigerians. While the devastation of the pandemic was spread worldwide, countries like Nigeria were hit harder because we do not have a reliable system that can handle such health crises, neither do we have a Federal and States’ Governments who were prepared and were willing to make the necessary sacrifice required to cushion the adverse impacts of the pandemic on its citizenry and economy.
Now that it seems like life, as we all knew it, is returning back as normal, we are being told again by the developed West, that a new variant of the Covid-19 string has erupted in the UK, and from the way it is spreading, we may have another Second Wave of the pandemic, which would lead to another lockdown in most countries across the world. Even with the development of a supposed vaccine against the Covid-19 disease, it appears there are other issues which many are not clear about as regards the reliability and effectiveness of the vaccine.
To me, the whole Covid-19 may be real, I am not disputing that, but I still believe it is being ‘over exaggerated’, especially in Nigeria, for reasons best known to only those in places of authority and Government. This would however cause more economic pains, instill more fear in the hearts of people that would even trigger other ailments within them that can lead to death, and just create more panic within societies. And of course, this also presents another round of opportunities for the officials of the Government to make more money in the name of making provisions to fight/manage Covid-19 and get the vaccines. With reports of fake Covid-19 tests results on sales in Lagos, which the Lagos State Government has raised alarm on recently, and with every ailment now termed as Covid-19 in hospitals/Clinics across the country; we really do not know what else to believe in all of this. The sad part is that, while the officials of the Government are making money from public budgets and donations for Covid-19, and some foreign Pharmaceutical Companies are making huge profits from all of this; majority of the businesses and people’s daily livelihoods will be shut down, and more unemployment will be created. One begins to wonder why the whole attentions and exaggeration placed/given to this whole Coronavirus pandemic? Are they saying that people were not dying in their numbers from asthma and other respiratory diseases before this whole Coronavirus saga came up?
Recently, a media outlet in the UK in a short video online, were asking the right questions, when they asked if the relevant Government and Health Authorities in the UK could provide proof that the virus (Covid-19) actually exist, and that it has been isolated in a laboratory. But the authorities in question initially failed to provide the information and response requested, within the deadline given. Only to do so much later in a letter, where they categorically stated that Covid-19 does not exist. The said media outlet, also demanded in their Court cases with the Government’s relevant Health Authorities, that they should, amongst other demands, provide ‘EVIDENCE’ that: lockdowns actually have any impact on the spread or otherwise of the Coronavirus; that facemasks are safe, and that they do deter the spread of the virus – which they don’t according to the media outlet, since there are no studies that exist to back this up. They are also asking for evidence that Social Distancing is based on science; that contact tracing has any bearing on the spread or otherwise of the virus, all of which the media outlet believes were all made up by relevant Authorities and Governments concerned.
The said media outlet in the UK went on to state that, “now that the relevant Health Authorities were forced to admit that the Covid-19 virus does not exist, more questions were raised. These include: If the Covid-19 virus has not been scientifically isolated, how could we possibly know that the vaccine is effective? If the virus for this vaccine has not been isolated (because vaccines are usually put in a laboratory-made virus in order to provoke an immune reaction in the body), how can we possibly know if this vaccine is safe? If the virus has not been isolated, how can anyone claim that a new variant (which is the latest scam they are pulling upon us), actually exists? If the original string of virus has never been isolated, how can a vaccine even be developed, when the virus itself has not been isolated? And how can the effectiveness of the vaccine be determined if the pathogens itself it is designed to treat, has not been isolated? How can a reliable test be developed to detect the presence of a particular virus if the virus itself has never been isolated? What proof do we have that a virus known as Covid-19 exist, if the virus has never been isolated? And what guarantees do we have that other spurious viruses will not be enhanced and held as a serious health threat to our society, when the original virus was never isolated? Will these new viruses be equally speculative? And finally, which parent could allow their child to be vaccinated with a new vaccine, which has never been tested on animals?”
“A treatment designed to protect against a virus, which has never been isolated, is highly experimental, and by definition, is a very serious risk to health? We know that many people who have gotten this vaccine have ended up dead or very unwell, while some of them have been paralyzed. Yet, they are coming with more stringent guidelines for another lockdown… These people are apparently demented, and are psychopaths… These people are only interested in the numbers; to reduce world population in their billions, not minding who is affected… To them, Covid-19 is the new religion, and they are committed to it’s agenda. And they won’t allow anyone to question or challenge them…”
The question is, with all of these controversies and uncertainties about the source, spread and understanding of the Covid-19 virus, why is the Nigerian Government and its relevant Health Authorities doing more of a ‘REACTIONARY RESPONSE’ to it, by following hook-line-and sinker, every directive and guidelines practiced in foreign countries, without asking pertinent questions, and making their own efforts to get to the bottom of all of this? Why the copy and paste disposition, which makes us spend and waste public funds, and put more Nigerians into more hardship and suffering?
This line of thought was reiterated by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in a short video interview with Channels Television. Where he emphasized his earlier stand that there is no case of the Covid-19 virus in his State. He believes that all the brouhaha about the Covid-19 virus in the country is uncalled for, especially when we consider the negative impact it has on the economy. And he advised that those in the positions of Authority that advise President Muhammadu Buhari, and those responsible for the management of this issue in the country, should do so with utmost honesty and fear of God. He noted that, when you lockdown over 200 million people for just one day, you can’t quantify the severe effect this has on the economy and the lives of people. “Livelihoods lost can never be regained completely.” Hence, Kogi State did not follow the tight lockdown like most State did, and they were better off in terms of the recorded number of investments witnessed during this period.
In his words, Nigeria do not need to partake in this marketing gimmick of vaccine for Covid-19 and a Second Wave… Let people be free to go about their businesses.” If we are going to spend N540billion in the purchase of vaccines, that funds can actually be channeled towards something else better. ‘If we can spend just N10billion per health institution that will well-equipped to cater for more deadly diseases (not for Covid-19 that has 99.9% chance of recovery), which are killing people every day, …we are going to have 54 of such world-class hospitals. Every State will have at least One of such hospital, while States like Lagos and Kano can have up to two. With such, there won’t be any disease that we won’t be able to cater for in this country… From the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) analysis some time back, N3.5Trillion has been expended so far on Covid-19, and Covid-related matters. We did not need to have gone through that route… Whereas, we have a report by a National Council Committee which suggested that with just N2Billion, we would address most of our road infrastructural problems. Sadly, that report has been gathering dust. Yet, we have expended N3.5Trillion on this Covid-19 matter. That is unprecedented. How this we spend that money? I think we should be asking questions on national issues that concerns our lives and livelihoods. If we are now gravitating towards locking down our people, creating a situation where civil servants and Nigerians will be forced to take vaccines, A VACCINE THE PRODUCERS HAVE ABSORBED THEMSELVES FROM TAKING RESPONSIBILITY IF THE PRODUCT DOES ANY HARM TO YOU, then we really do not know what we are doing as a nation…”
Truth is, we simply cannot afford another lockdown, which there are no evidence to suggest that it prevents/reduces the spread of the virus, in the country. Especially when Nigerians are yet to recover from the impact of the last lockdown. Sometimes I wonder if the Nigerian Governments at all levels are just doing all of this to satisfy the World Health Organization and other possible Donors, so that they can position themselves to be receiving more funds as Covid-19 support. They forget that, a country that just keeps receiving money from anybody will ultimately fulfill the agenda of their benefactors. This is exactly what we are seeing happening now. A government of visionless leaders who do not understand the psychology of reciprocation will even collect water from the devil and give her citizens the cup to return. That is the unfortunate situation Nigeria has been put in. And it is the same in most African countries. In fact, the entire Africa is gradually taking steps into ‘modern day slavery’... The super powers keep doing anything to ensure we remain incapacitated and always rely on them and sadly, our political leaders are towing the line.
