ON THE RISING INSECURITY: THESE SO-CALLED BANDITS SHOULD BE TREATED FOR WHAT THEY ARE - ABSOLUTE TERRORISTS

These criminals should be aggressively treated as the terrorists they are…
Nigeria and its citizenry daily being pushed to a point of retaliation, which may amount to a full blown war…
Nigerians should not be made to live in fear…
If the Federal and State Governments are overwhelmed by the rising insecurity situation in Nigeria, then they should quietly resign with their dignity intact…

It is no longer news that Nigeria has been under sieged by criminals, which the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has labeled as 'bandits,' who have continued to unleash terror and mayhem across the length and breadth of the country. But sadly, the Nigerian Political leaders at both the States and the Federal Government, who have sworn by the Constitution to protect the lives and properties of the Nigerian citizenry, have not given the insecurity situation posed by these  criminals, the all-round aggressive attention it requires.

Aside the fact that these criminals should be labeled by the Government as the terrorists group(s) they are, Nigerians are yet to feel the required aggression and force exhibited by the Federal Government and Security Operatives, to drastically ameliorate these criminal activities. All we have been getting from the Nigerian Government at all levels are "reactionary responses", rather than "proactive responses" in tacking these criminals. If things continue the way they are going, Nigerians will be left at the bring of absolute collapse.

As we speak, no place is safe anymore across the country. These criminals have steadily instilled fear and panic in the hearts of Nigerians of all works of life, tribe and religion.

Just within the past few days, there have been several reports of these making life a living hell for Nigerians at different parts of the country. Before we thought the focus and target was Christians, but now no one is excluded.

We can imagine a situation where Bandits were reported to have broken into the Katsina Mosque, and abducted Worshippers said to be up to 40, observing midnight prayer (Tahajjud) in Jibia Local Government Area of the State.

What I find appalling is the fact that these bandit criminals are hiding under the guise of Islam to commit these heinous crimes. But it is a known fact that the word Islam represents PEACE. If this trend of criminality should continue, then Nigeria is in real trouble. If the two foreign religions: Christianity and Islam, and the African traditional religion are all not spared by these terrorists, then we are indeed in trouble in the country. That means it is not about tribe or religion, but just pure criminality. As such, the Nigerian Government and Security Operatives should consider changing its structure and strategy in addressing this menace in the country. No Nigerian will not be happy living in constant fear of these criminals that can unleash their terror at any time, and in any location.

From the several reported recent attacks in Imo State, the killing of 19 suspected Fulani Herdsmen In Anambra, the abduction of students in Kaduna, to the killings in IDPs camps in Borno state. Now, there is no day that passes by without a report of one attack or the other by these criminal elements. We can see that the insecurity situation is driving Nigerians to a point of retaliation to survive, which will amount to a full blown war. Yet, we supposedly have a Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and Chief Security Officials in the Government House of every State across the nation.

If the current Federal and State Governments in the country are overwhelmed by the rising insecurity situation in Nigeria, then they should quietly resign and leave office with their dignity intact. But if they chose to stay, then they must be ready to be in the heat of the kitchen, and aggressively address the problem without delay. Nigerians cannot be living in daily fear in a country they call their own. It is absolutely not right. What then is the essence of having a Government, with all the Security votes and public resources at their disposal?
