ON THE POTENTIAL GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANTS IN DELTA STATE - THE NEED FOR DELTANS TO ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS TO IDENTIFY/SEPARATE THE 'WOLVES' FROM THE PACK

I have carefully glanced through the pictures being circulated online, apparently by some paid writers, of some proposed governorship aspirants that have indicated interest to govern Delta State after the tenure of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2023. While it seems the 2023 Governorship election in Delta State is going to be a keen context, judging by the fact that we are still in 2021, and we already have quite a pack of politicians interested in the number one seat in the State. However, it is very important for Deltans and Nigerians in Delta State, to not repeat the mistakes of the past when it comes to choosing who will be the next Delta State Governor.

To that end, there is need to ask relevant, though uncomfortable questions, as regard the proven personality of those being projected and proposed to context for the Governorship seat of the State. The essence of these questions is to help Deltans and Nigerians make "well-informed-decisions" when it comes to who will be the next Governor of the State. This is because whatever choice we make, will either Mar or Deter the future developmental prospects of Delta State.

The first set of questions, which should be answered in our hearts in all honesty, is: what were the financial status of all of these governorship aspirants before 1999? What were they doing, where were they and what role were they playing in Delta State from 1999 to date, to be where they are now? These questions are very important because to a large extent, it will help us know those who were actively involved in siphoning Delta State funds to a bleeding point, under the reign of the past Delta State governments that started from 1999. It will also help us ascertain the level of the integrity of these men, and the possibility of what they are likely to do, if given the chance to govern the State.

When we do not consider these questions, then we would also ask: Are the Delta State elites encouraging the unrestrained looting of our collective funds meant to develop the State? This is because, Delta State is where it is today in its deplorable state, because of some of these persons who were actively involved in rippling off the State of its public funds meant to make life a lot better for the people, from 1999 till date. There is need to ask these questions and answer them with all sincerity of purpose because, how will Delta State ever achieve development, when we encourage this negative mind-set? How will the looting of Delta State be brought to a stop if we do not expose and rightly put in their place, these persons that were actively involved in ruining Delta State?

Another set of questions that should be asked, are: How did these politicians became wealthy overnight, especially when they clearly do not have any evidence of wealth creation? How can such persons with questionable wealth within few years in Delta State government to be voted to govern Delta State for another eight years? What were their significance before 1999? What factories and businesses, do they own, to have created this overnight wealth, which they are now using to buy their way to becoming governor? Are Deltans not thinking? Should we allow such persons to even come close to the seat of executive Government again? Why should the Delta elites be scared of these governorship aspirants, to the extent that they have all kept mute to what is happening? Don't they have a mind of their own?

We need to become wise as a people, and not allow these set of politicians who were part of the problems in the State, to regroup again to take over the seat of the government of Delta State. It will be Delta State people putting our future, and that of our children and the unborn generation, in great jeopardy.

Is that how countries in Europe, North America, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were developed? Why should we always concentrate on the 'Now' without any consideration of the future? Why are we planning to continue on the present deplorable path in the State? Are we not tired of the way things have been going on in the State? What is wrong with some of our Delta State elites who are scared of the shadows of  politicians who are with entrepreneurial skills?

What sort of Delta State Governor do we want? Is it a Delta State Governor that the same few politicians with a corrupt-ridden legacy, can manipulate as they please, and perpetually keep Delta State within their grips? Shouldn't our priority of a future  Governor, be one that would not be answerable to any cabal, but only to the people? A Governor, who has a proven record of wealth creation, that can truly develop the state, create wealth for the state and drastically reduce the unemployment level and insecurity in the State? Why should some of these Delta State elites be excited with the failures in the State, and still want to encourage the looting of our collective funds? If some persons, who became billionaires by virtue of actively participating in the looting of Delta State money, are encouraged to be in the number one seat of the State Government, then why are the elites complaining of bad governance? Why are Delta elites  scared of politicians that are governorship aspirants, who are with the entrepreneurial skills, expertise and independent minds that have what it takes to create wealth for Delta state? Should Delta State continue like this? Should we train our young talented graduates, that hard work is no more in the vogue and relevant in this 21st century? But what they need is to  join government to amass wealth and become rich overnight?

What sort of future will we be building with such disposition?
