ON THE PATHETIC DISPOSITION OF EXCITEMENT BY THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AT ALL LEVELS IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES

I find it rather disturbing every time I see Nigerian Government at the State and Federal levels coming out in public to excitingly announce another case, or cases of the Coronavirus, either in their individual States or across the country. Just like we saw recently with the Delta State Government that confirmed that three new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in the State, as it also disclosed that the State now has a total of 31 confirmed cases.
I really do not understand this somewhat excitement to announce Coronavirus cases by the Nigerian Government at the States and Federal levels. It is totally uncalled for, especially since it has been reported that the medicine used for Coronavirus patients cannot be differentiated with that of malaria parasites. Once a person is feverish and coughing, it is assumed to be Coronavirus, even when the testing kits, which are not reliable and readily available to conduct coronavirus tests.
Even the reporters are not helping matters with the way they report these things. Since when has a Coronavirus case become a “BREAKING NEWS”? And Nigerians are being fed with this fearful reports and announcements on a daily basis. And one wonders why the somewhat excitement by the Federal Government and State Governments over this pandemic. Or are they praying and anticipating these Coronavirus cases daily. What are they gaining in the excitement of announcing these Coronavirus cases?
In my opinion, while I acknowledge the fact that the Coronavirus pandemic is real, and is affecting people’s lives, but I also believe that it is being over exaggerated by the Nigerian Government at the federal and state levels for whatever reasons best known to only them. While good awareness has been raised over the Coronavirus situation, but this particular excitement with the announcement of new cases, calls for probing. It is as if the Coronavirus testing kits/machines are not reliable. A person can text positive today, and again text negative by the same machine within the same time without taking any medication. I am not a medical expert, but a layman can even see the whole drama with this, which some Nigerians in and out of Government, are allegedly benefiting from.
In the midst of this, the Chinese are busy making money from the nation’s import of the facemasks. Though there are locally made ones in Nigeria, but the materials and elastics used to make them are still imported from China. The panicking in Nigeria over this pandemic is enough already. We do not need this sort of excitement in the announcement of new cases, which will not do the economy any good. In fact, they are unknowingly causing more harm to the economy of this country. The Nigerian Government authorities concerned are just busy announcing figures that are not real, especially since most of the Coronavirus patients are reportedly said to be malaria patients. It is alleged that all of this, is more of a scam in Nigerian, than the real Coronavirus. Let us keep our fingers crossed though, and hope that the truth will be exposed in due time.
