It is only in this part of the world that we see supposed public office holders make promises that they never intended to keep, and go about their supposed 'government work' without any iota of shame, for not being able to keep to their promises and oath of office - which is to SERVE the people, and not being able to address pressing issues that adversely affect their people.

ON THE NON-FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE OSUBI-WARRI AIRSTRIP - SHAME ON CHIEF FESTUS KEYAMO, SEN. OVIE OMO-AGEGE, HON.SHERIFF OBOREVWORI, MR. DAVID EDEVBIE, SEN. JAMES MANAGER, HON. EFE AFE, HON. FRANCIS WAIVE, BARR. PETER MRAKPOR AND OTHERS

It is only in this part of the world that we see supposed public office holders make promises that they never intended to keep, and go about their supposed 'government work' without any iota of shame, for not being able to keep to their promises and oath of office - which is to SERVE the people, and not being able to address pressing issues that adversely affect their people. It is as if these public office holders just join Government to carry out and sustain a completely different and selfish agenda, which are never in the interest of the people they were expected to serve in the first place.

That is how I, and many other well-meaning Deltans and Nigerians, feel about the following stated public office holders, anytime we think of the non-functional Osubi-Warri Airstrip. These are politicians who ought to be abreast and proactive in the discharge of their statutory duties, especially when it concerns the infrastructural needs of their people in the South-South.

Let's recall that it was some months ago that Festus Keyamo publicly boasted in a gathering of the South-South Stakeholders in Port-Harcourt towards late 2020, that within few weeks, the Osubi-Warri Airstrip will be functional/operational.

To everyone's surprise, up till now, the said Osubi-Warri Airstrip has remained closed. It was said that it would only function/operate during the day, but not at night hours. However, the said Airstrip is still not functioning/operating as it should.

Let us also be reminded that Keyamo is a serving minister who is from the Delta Central. Sheriff Oborevwori, who is from Osubi Town itself in Delta Central, is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, and he is said to be warming up to become the next Governor of Delta State. Omo-Agege himself is the Deputy Senate President, a Senator representing the Delta Central in the Nigerian Senate. For David Edevbie, he is also aspiring to contest for governorship of Delta State, and he is the Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. James Manager, who is also aspiring to contest as Governor of Delta State, is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Delta South near Osubi-Warri airport. Efe Afe is the lawmaker representing Okpe, Uvwie and Sapele in the House of Representatives.

Peter Mrakpor, who is from Delta Central, is the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice for Delta State, and he too, is aspiring to contest for the governorship election of Delta State. Funny enough, all of these politicians were using the said Osubi-Warri Airstrip, being the nearest to their home towns and villages in Delta State. But apparently, Governor Okowa doesn't care about the Osubi-Warri Airstrip as far as the Asaba Airport is operational. The question is, do these politicians have conscience at all? From all we have seen, the majority of the Nigerian politicians have lost their minds. It is sad that these bunch of politicians are not concerned about the development of their community and people. Yet, they still want to regroup to govern Delta State for another eight years if possible. And people still praise and clap for them.

I have reiterated the fact that the Osubi-Warri Airstrip is a major infrastructure that shouldn't be forgotten by any serious-minded politician. I have prevailed on them on countless occasions to carry out the planned Upgrade/Expansion of the Osubi-Warri Airstrip to a standard international Airport. But if these stated politicians were not able to put pressure on the relevant authorities to carry out this expansion/upgrade of the Osubi-Warri Airstrip by the end of their tenures in office, then they seriously do not deserve to be given any backing on their plans to become Governor of the State come 2023. Rather, they should be ashamed, and publicly shamed for not doing what they promised, or not using their influence and office to address this issue.
