ON THE HIJACKED ENDSARS PROTESTS
ON THE HIJACKED ENDSARS PROTESTS
It is appalling to see that the EndSARS protests, which started peacefully across different parts of the country, has been hijacked by hoodlums, allegedly being sponsored by political interests to discredit the primary objective of the genuine protesters. All major streets/roads in Warri, Refinery Road, PTI Junction Effurun, Ebrumede, Ugbomro, Effurun/Warri/Sapele Road, Orhuwhorun Junction Ovwian, Otokutu in Ughelli South LGA, Udu roads in Udu LGA, Delta State for instance, were blocked today (19/10/20) to motorists. This is rather not a pleasant development.
If the purpose of the protests is to solve a problem, then I really don't know why it should deteriorate to the point where it is now creating untold hardships for the plebeians going about their daily businesses? The top politicians and their fronts are the patricians of this era and they are supposed to be the target here and not the plebeians (masses).
Today, sick people have no access to hospitals because all major roads and streets are blocked by the supposed protesters. Struggling market women were unable to go to their markets today. School children who were at home all through during the Covid-19 lockdown that resumed school few days ago, were unable to go to school today. And the few lucky ones who passed the roads to school in the morning of today, were unable to return home due to the blockage of the major roads/streets in Warri and environs.
One begins to wonder and ask: Of what need is the protest if it is seen to punish the masses? It simply does not make sense.
In my own opinion, the EndSARS protests are meaningless if they are creating more problems for the masses than they are trying to solve. For five hours, I was unable to get to my office and return to my residential house. It was becoming a problem. The EndSARS protests have lost its relevance with the said hijack by hoodlums believed to be sponsored, and for leading to the deaths of people. Protests should be seen to be peaceful, coordinated and aimed at achieving a desired objective, as seen in others parts of the world. Not haphazardly done as we see in Nigeria.
