ON SHERIFF OBOREVWORI’S “PURCHASED” VICTORY AT THE SUPREME COURT – TYPICAL OF DELTA STATE PDP COURT CASES
Any court judgement victory that was obviously influenced by these political actors of Delta State PDP, will never serve the overall interest of the people...
The people of Delta State should grow-up and wise-up, and realize those who are truly the enemies of the State’s progress and development all these years…
When I read on the news that the Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate for the 2023 general elections, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday, 21st October, 2022, dedicated his supposed victory at the Supreme Court to the Almighty God and the people of Delta State, I could not help but wonder how a man can be so cold-hearted to use God and the people of Delta State to try and validate his evil deeds done behind the scene. Why use the holy name and personality of God to try and cover-up their evil and clandestine acts which they know fully well that God will never approve such?
What supposed “Victory” exactly is Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and their supporters celebrating? Are they trying to mock God? But we all know you cannot mock God. In due time, every man that is within the coffers of the PDP-led Delta State Government, will pay for the sins they have committed against the people of Delta State.
Truth be told, those celebrating are simply celebrating 'A PURCHASED COURT VICTORY.' A victory that we all know was never decided on the merits on ground. But rather, the decision was one that was heavily influenced with money.
It is sad that the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary has been so watered down. And can no longer be relied upon by the common man. Though, this is not strange in Delta, especially as it concerns the PDP-led Delta State Government.
We all know the James Ibori famous ex-convict case that was transported from the Federal High Court in Abuja to the Supreme Court. Then it was known as - “Ibori was sentenced but not convicted.” And that was because a lot of Delta state money was allegedly used to bribe the Judges concerned to get a favourable judgement. Not until a South Wark Crown Court in the UK, sentenced Ibori to prison after he had pleaded guilty on 20th February, 2012, to charges of money-laundering involving sums amounting to at least 50 million Pounds (more than $66 Million), and conspiracy to defraud Delta State. It was after this that many then realized that indeed, Ibori was guilty of the crimes first brought against him by the EFCC. But of course, they used Delta State stolen funds to allegedly influence the court decision that supposedly exonerated Ibori in Nigeria.
It has been the same music that is being played with all the past and present court cases involving the persons within the cliques of the PDP-led Delta Government. For example, after all their Election Tribunal cases, we hear of one alleged bribery or the other to influence court judgements in their favour.
It is rather unfortunate that Delta State, since 1999 till date, has been very unlucky with those that were supposedly elected to be the managers of the State’s collective wealth and resources. These guys have been using all kinds of tricks and deception to find their way into Government, and continually ensure that as they leave, a loyal predecessor will be put in place to cover-up their evil deeds.
When we look at the Sherriff’s situation for instance, are they saying he won all his court cases on merit and justice? Can Sherriff and Okowa swear to God that they didn't bribe judges to purchase these supposed judgments that are making mockery of the Nigerian judiciary? Obviously, they cannot do so!
In those olden days, Nigerian Judges were men of great reputation and tested integrity. I still recall the Shugaba deportation cases in 1980, which Alhaji Shehu Shagari's led NPN administration lost at that time to him - Shugaba Darman. They said Shugaba was deported to Chad, and a Chadian aged woman had to come to testify that she was Shugaba's biological mother, and she insisted that she wanted her son to return to Chad Republic. This was because another wretched and poor woman had resurfaced from Maiduguri then to claim that Shugaba was her biological son. Even with the Federal might then, the Judges involved then stood firm and revoked the deportation order issued by the then minister of internal affairs, Alhaji Bello Maitama.
Today, once any of the politicians in power at the Federal and states are interested in any court case that affects his/her personal interests, that case is as good as dead because it will be induced with money to influence the final court judgements. It is a known fact that the Nigeria judiciary is the major problem of our democracy. Court Judgements involving these politicians usually end up in favour of the highest payers/bidders.
The most annoying part of this whole charade is their usual multiple Thanksgivings in Churches that always follow such purchased court victories, or when they supposedly win an election. All to mock themselves and not God. Sheriff and Okowa can't swear to God that they won any court case without alleged bribery.
I had actually told people who are close friends that Sheriff will be eventually declared the winner at the Supreme Court. And they doubted me. But before the said Supreme Court judgment, there was already jubilation of victory by Sheriff’s supporters on Thursday 20th October 2022, which was the day before the main judgement was delivered. In other words, the supposed Supreme Court judgment in favour of Sherriff was just done for formality’s sake.
I pity the likes of Peter Obi of the Labour party because these same people may upturn elections judgments if he should win the Presidential election in 2023 under his party.
Nigeria will indeed “gain independence” from the day the country will be free from the hands of these supposed court judges at all levels of the Judiciary.
Sherriff and Okowa should hide their faces in shame, and stop their fake jubilations over the said Supreme Court victory. They should just go quietly to continue their supposed campaigns, rather than jubilating over a purchased Supreme Court victory.
It is said that when you throw a stone at the market place, you don't know who the stone will hit. That will soon be the case in this situation. When Ibori started bribing judges then, he didn't know that a day will come when those in power in the future would use the same bribery to deal with him. When Ibori started all these briberies of judges against Great Ogboru and Co, he didn't know that a day will come when Okowa and Sherriff will use the same Bribery tactics with state money against him. And that is the case at hand. Ibori started all these bribery of judges with state money. Today, Ibori's main man Edevbie, and himself have been disgraced by his former loyal boys - Okowa and Sherriff.
In due time, the same Sherriff will also deal with Okowa at the end of his administration if elected Delta State governor. All Okowa has done against Ibori, will repeat itself. Sherriff will also impose a Delta governorship candidate against the wishes of his new boss, Okowa.
Ibori thought he would be the ‘political champ’ for life that everyone must bow to. But how far today? No one is a champion for life. Okowa and Oborevwori may be reigning political champions of Delta for today. But it will not remain so for long. And that is why I pity them. I only pray the people of Delta State will wise up and see through the lens being presented to them by these PDP political actors
