ON PRESIDENT BUHARI'S BADLY PACKAGED FIRST SPEECH SINCE THE ENDSARS PROTESTS - NOT WHAT NIGERIANS EXPECTED

One of the great attributes of any political leader, particularly in the face of any crises and apprehensive situation, is to give its citizenry a sense of empathy, hope and direction, and to reassure them that whatever might have been the anger and aggression, he understands, and he takes responsibility as a leader, to address them.

These, and many more were the expectations of the Nigerian masses, when they waited and waited for the Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to address the nation on the recent crises-ridden situation across the country.

When the President, Muhammdu Buhari finally spoke to Nigerians, to say that I, and I believe many Nigerians, were disappointed by the President's speech, is to put it mildly. One begins to wonder why President Buhari's first speech since the EndSARS protests was so badly packaged? Who were those that wrote the speech for him? Did he not glance through it before delivering the speech?

The President's first speech was a complete flop up since the President didn't condemn the massacre of the Nigerian youths at the Lekki toll gate. Those that were killed were human beings like his own children.

A President ought to have talked about the shootings at Lekki. The youths at Lekki toll gate were not violent before the shootings. They were shot while engaging in peaceful protests. This shows the President has no empathy for Nigerians, and he doesn't think for the people. This also the President has made more errors, after taking so long to deliver the said speech. It is just quite unfortunate!

I however appeal to the Nigerian youths to end the protests, since the protests are killing the same poor Nigerians and adversely affecting the livelihood of the same poor masses. The more the protests, the more harm to the common masses.

The killing of the Nigerian police officers is very wrong because they are part of the common masses. The officers are simply part of the failed system that does not know how to take care of its public institutions. They should stop the attack on the police and the correction centres/prisons. The Nigerian youths should restrain themselves from the attacks on public infrastructure too, which include police stations, corrections centres/prisons, banks, business premises, shopping centres, government owned offices.

I have said it before that the attack/mob of the police stations will worsen the economic situations because no local and foreign investor will want to invest in a country that is without security, especially since the country is now burning with massive protests. IT IS DANGEROUS IF THERE IS NO LAW AND ORDER IN ANY SOCIETY. The  breakdown of law and order will create more hardships for the common masses. The political class are not really affected. The protesters should stop further protests across the country.

The protesters have made themselves clear that bad governance will no longer be tolerated in the country. This should be a lesson for all the Nigerian politicians to learn from. The politicians have failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to its populace. There are few or no politician in Nigeria since 1999, who really meant well for the Nigerian people with their actions. They are mostly rogues in good clothing, talking in riddles at the floor of the Senate and House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly and also at the Executive levels of government. The Nigerian Senators and members of the House of Representatives especially, are the worst pack of them all. As they are only known for acting drama/written scripts to mislead the people with packs of LIES. Sadly, the majority of the Nigerian people are easily deceived with their sweet coated speeches.

Few or no Nigerian politician mean well for the Nigerian people. But we should be cautious, so that they don't invite the 'khaki' boys who will end up causing more harm to the country. They shouldn't give opportunity to the khaki boys to come in as military administrators. Enough of the protests. The widespread of the EndSARS protests is wrongly managed by politicians in power. They undermined the protesters, which resulted to the killings of innocent peaceful protesters. But enough of the protests to end the killings of the common people.

As for the Nigerian politicians, they should stop stealing public money meant for development of the country and the citizenry. Majority of the Nigerian politicians are billionaires without owning businesses. Most of the wealth of the politicians are stolen from the people. In Delta State alone, about 99% of the state politicians before 1999, were PAUPERS with no comfortable means of income. But as at of today, the Delta State politicians are billionaires with no clear source of income, other than stolen public wealth. So, the anger of the Nigerian protesting youths is justified because the politicians are the real major thieves/armed robbers in the country that are parading with ill-gotten wealth here and there.

The Nigerian politicians deserve no respect at all. They should be shamed and booed in public places, but the people should not act violently against them.

Again, enough of the protests. The public property they are burning are owned by the people and the same politicians will use their fronts to build them back with inflated contract rates. They should stop the burning because the poor people work in those places to make a living. Majority of Delta State politicians didn't own a house of their own before they joined Delta State government. But the moment they are appointed and elected, they become automatic billionaires with no known source of income.

Having said all of that, the way forward is for President Buhari to put a commission of enquiry in place, to find out who actually gave the order to shoot the protesters at sight at the Lekki toll gate? Such shootings must have been authorised by the military high command or Commander-In-Chief. The Governor of Lagos state and Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu are not directly in control of the military. Who gave the order? On whose advice did the unknown soldiers acted upon? Who are the brains behind all of these shootings at the Lekki toll gate? Who approved the request for the soldiers to be moved to Lekki toll gate for the shootings? Nigerians want to know. But as for the Nigerian youths, they should stop attacking police officers and other Security operatives. Let's remember that we do not have any other country to call our own.
