ON FRED LATIMORE OGHENESIVBE’S “DELTA 2023: UPU DOES NOT PRODUCE AND ADOPT GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANTS- OLOROGUN MOSES TAIGA”
It is not every time that one has to stoop so low to respond to another’s blabbering and demonstration of madness in the name of writing. Often times, ignoring such an individual like Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, would be the best line of action because everything, and anything that comes from his angle, is nothing but ‘pollution’ that should not be taken seriously by well-meaning stakeholders in Delta State, and across the nation. But for the benefit of those who might not really understand the issues at stake, and the falsehood being spread by Latimore Oghenesivbe, one if left with no choice but to come out to clear the air and set the records straight. That is the objective of this subject response.
For those who do not know, the said Latimore Oghenesivbe, who brands himself as a so-called “Pen Eagle” that claims to be known for “doggedness and bravery while digging up facts and analyzing political issues,” is actually nothing but a stooge, who has been hired, re-hired, tossed from one end to another by different politically-exposed-persons in high and low places, to do their self-centered biddings (via the act of ‘blackmail-writing’), and actualize the heart desires of whichever paymaster that he is working for at any given time. This has been the trade and stock of Latimore Oghenesivbe, who has become a disgrace to the noble and selfless practice of public advocacy.
Let be reiterated here, for those who are yet to know Zik Gbemre, I have never, and will never collect/receive monetary values in any form, or encourage “dollar-based politics” as insinuated by Latimore, to foster any cause for anybody’s/political party’s interest. That is not my life and will never. Unlike the likes of Latimore, whose pedigree in the art of writing is laden with questionable intentions that are usually not in the interest of Deltans. I am the one who is known not to visit any politician, or allow anybody to dictate to me what to write on. So, if anyone should be pointing fingers as being guilty of such unworthy path, it should be Latimore Oghenesivbe pointing at himself. I am not a Politician, neither am I a member of any Political Party – be it PDP or the APC. I am not affiliated to any Political party. I am simply an Urhobo man, a Deltan and a patriotic Nigerian.
This is the same Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, who was allegedly hired from Lagos some years ago by Emerhor to write against, and to blackmail Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. He did his job very well that it was alleged that Okowa had to allegedly buy him over with a better price offer, and also given an appointment in Okowa’s Government. That was how Latimore was said to have allegedly started writing against Emerhor and the APC, his former pay master. It was also said that after Okowa's first tenure, Latimore Oghenesivbe was laid off by Okowa, but he was said to have run to Chief Kenneth Gbagi to allegedly plead his case for Okowa to have him re-appointed as a Media/Communication Aide. It was said that, though Okowa told Gbagi that Oghenesivbe can't be trusted, but Latimore was eventually considered to be part of the Government after much persuasions. However, we can see that the same Latimore, is now being used by the PDP Chieftains in the State like Chief James Ibori, to go against anyone that is perceived to be a threat in anyway, to their future political ambitions. While I admit that all of these are based on hearsay, but there is always no smoke without fire. And from what I have observed of Latimore, there is element of truth to all of this. But that is not even the issue here.
The facts, as reiterated in my past write ups on the subject matter, is that Olorogun Moses Taiga, even though he remains a parallel UPU President General, it does not warrant him to award/give the title to Okowa as the supposed “OCHUKO” of Urhobo land. That is like saying/likening Okowa as a Mentor anointed by God, or as the savior of the Urhobos. It is this title that I consider inappropriate because I really do not know what exactly Okowa has done to deserve such a title, especially in the eyes of the Urhobos. This craze for awards/titles is a major set back to our development as a people and society. But like I always say, the worth of a man or any political leader, is not measured by the number of titles or awards he/she received while on earth, but rather by the time tested, concrete, meaningful, valuable, and enduring contributions and achievements which he/she has made towards the lives of those in his/her immediate and remote environment.
On Taiga’s statement and endorsement of Gbagi’s gubernatorial ambition for 2023, I still stand by what I said that, a man cannot say one thing today in the presence of many, only to turn around tomorrow to claim the opposite. It does not speak well of the integrity of such an individual, especially one who is supposed to be a parallel leader of a relevant socio-cultural group like UPU. My said write up, particularly of this matter, was primarily intended to ‘correct’ and ‘advise’ Chief Moses Taiga to stand by his words, especially in consideration to the sensitive position he occupies in Urhobo land. This was my objective in the write up and nothing else. So, all that blabbering and insinuations by Latimore in his subject response, is him trying to make sense out of his nonsense. It is not a matter of Latimore claiming that he called Taiga to confirm that he did not endorse Gabgi, it is matter of the “evidence that is out there” in pictures and videos, of what actually transpired on the day when Taiga made the said statement, which he now denies. If Latimore Oghenesivbe had seen the said video, I don’t think he would have the guts to lift up his pen to write the rubbish he did.
On my commentary about Ibori, which I have repeated on several occasions; he remains an ex-convict who was sent to prison for stealing Delta State public funds meant to develop the State. No present and future event, or countless writings by Latimore Oghenesivbe and Others, would ‘erase’ that undeniable fact. I was not the one who sent Ibori, his wife, his sister, his mistress and lawyer to prison for stealing. They, and Ibori brought that upon themselves. And Ibori will forever remain a man who was convicted by a super power nation like the UK. So, I really do not know what Latimore Oghenesivbe is talking about. Ibori and his family and lawyer were sent to jail in the UK for Ibori’s crimes. Yet, someone is painting that kind of a man as a Leader of the Urhobo people. What nonsense leader is Ibori? It is only an insane man that is without conscience and empathy for the people of Delta State, that would be writing/speaking for Ibori, as Latimore Oghenesivbe is known for. Same with Okowa, whom we cannot pin point his significant contributions in the State’s developmental strides that would outlive his administration. Those who want to take Ibori as their Leader, hero, mentor and what have you, are very free to do so. But as for me, Ibori remains a worthless former Delta State Governor as a UK ex-convict.
For the Urhobo Traditional Rulers, I was very specific in my writing to restrict it to Urhobo Traditional Rulers. But that was a subtle digression in my write up that was used to further explain the sort of anomalies evident in Delta State, particularly in the subject matter of dishing out awards/titles to underserving and none-performing public office holders. And they did it without shame to have included Ibori, an ex-convict who stole from the State. I mean, who does that? As such, it is my candid and rightful stand that Ibori, based on his criminal past as confirmed by the UK Court and present unrepentant and unremorseful state, does not have the integrity to speak for the Urhobo nation.
As for Latimore Oghenesivbe’s empty, baseless and childish warning in his last paragraph, let him, and those sponsoring his laughable and senseless writings, be reminded that no matter the countless writings, or whatever “media war” they want to stir up; I, Zik Gbemre, will remain undeterred, unperturbed, unbothered and unmoved. I will continue to relentlessly speak out and advocate through the power of the pen - for what is right, and against that which is not in the interest of the Urhobo nation, the common masses, Deltans and Nigerians in general. If they like, Latimore and his paymasters should go to the moon for all I care. As one who leads likeminded minds who fight for individual causes as if those were our causes, Latimore and his paymasters should realize that at the end of the day, it is those who come to justice with clean hands that will always be vindicated.
