OKOWA & OBOREVWORI: IT TAKES ONE FAILURE TO PROMOTE ANOTHER

Governor of Delta state, who is also the vice presidential candidate of the PDP is the representative of the Southern part of Nigeria on the Atiku presidential ticket.

As noted by Kesiena Gbemre, "A man who has failed in showing exemplary leadership as a governor wouldn’t do better at the federal level. The 13% derivative returned to states under President Buhari’s leadership was squandered by the Okowa government.

The governor can neither account for how the money was spent nor show projects he spent the funds on. Furthermore, Governor Okowa took a 150 billion naira loan for the state, meaning whichever government succeeds him would have to work with debt. How is this justified?

Delta state is a hub for oil and natural gas production and generates substantial revenue. Governor Okowa never fought for the Warri Port to be functional neither did he work toward making the Delta Steel Company productive.

So what is the benefit of having this same man as a Vice President? Comparing Okowa’s performance with his counterparts shows glaringly that his government was a total failure and source of sorrow to Deltans.

The current PDP gubernatorial candidate Hon sheriff Oborevwori would be the nail in the coffin if voted into office, it is a known fact that can be substantiated before any reasonable judge or jury that he has no educational qualification and he has committed perjury by presenting falsified documents. The Supreme Court cleared him citing lack of evidence which means the authenticity of his certificates is still to be questioned.

The Uyo stadium is of a higher standard and quality than the one the governor is building, Rivers state has more infrastructural projects and more economical beneficial projects. The state government is spending state funds building a stadium in a state that already has one.

The employment rate is low, alarming rate of insecurity and overall the Okowa administration has failed to create an enabling environment for doing business. Delta state cannot boast of any project like the standard of the “Dr Peter Odilli cancer diagnostics centre” that was recently commissioned in rivers state.

Delta state received 142 billion naira in 2021 as part of the 13% derivation pay out no other state, on that list received up to a 100 billion naira.

These facts bring to light that the Okowa government is a blatant failure that has led to the stagnation of the state, brought about indiscriminate looting of the state funds, engaging in superficial projects that are in no way beneficial to the state.

The Okowa's government failed to show equity in leadership in Delta state. Once again Okowa has shown his colours of betrayal by supporting Atiku Abubakar as his running mate. A wise man once said “A man is best known, in his home town”.

Deltans have been blatantly disappointed by the Okowa's administration and Nigerians must know that he is not capable of unifying Nigeria as he could not unify his state".
