OBASEKI'S VENGEFUL DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTIES OF POLITICAL OPPONENTS:  PAYBACK AWAITS HIM

It's petty politics taken too far for Edo State Governor to revoke ownership of Ize-Iyamu's farmland on vengeful excuses
It's foolhardy for incumbent Edo Governor to forget that power is transient and tomorrow he could be on the receiving end.
He has a chance to learn from history like when DR NNAMDI AZIKIWE once told Ukpabi Asika, 'No condition is permanent'

Governor Godwin Obaseki must be drunk on vindictive politics and abuse of state power that would surely count against him in life and leaving office. Else, how does one explain his habitual harassment, seizure or destruction of private properties against political opponents in Edo state.

It is sad that he would even display the shameful habit against Ize-Iyamu with mindless revocation of a vast farm land his governorship rival may have invested so much.

How could Obaseki, self-imposed Emperor of Edo State, have gone to such maniacal extent, not minding the negative economic impact such rash action would subject Edo economy with the many engaged farmworkers that would be displaced, not to mention the public apology Ize-Iyamu tendered following conclusion of the election litigations.

In democracy there are always aspirants and candidates that will contest elections. Nigeria democracy is not a one party system so why all of this display of abuse of power? Even in a one party system it is not an excuse for such abuse of state power.

This folly of Obaseki's reprehensible abuse of power reminds one of the ugly conflict that once made Nnamdi Azikiwe to tell Ukpabi Asika, then as military administrator of East Central State, that. "NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT".

Asika had insultingly written Nnamdi Azikiwe, labelling him EX PREMIER OF EASTERN REGION, EX GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF NIGERIA, EX PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, EX EVERYTHING. In a dignified response, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe had replied Ukpabi Asika that, "NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT", a reminder that he too would in no time, become an Ex.

Obaseki must be reminded that in few years, he would be ex-governor of Edo state. No matter the sins of Ize-Iyamu, he shouldn't have revoked his farmland with in vengeful excuses.

Power is not permanent. Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor and former APC national chairman is hardly heard or mentioned in the polity today. This is how transient power can be.

Critics will say what concerns Zik Gbemre in filthy Edo State politics. I won't keep silent to see such display of drunkenness on impunity by a sitting state governor against his opponent.

Obaseki has a chance to retrace his steps and rewrite his ugly tendencies, especially against some of the hands that were most prominent in bringing him to political limelight.

History will not judge him well in the long run, if he fails to change his ways. And surely, unavoidably, someone will tomorrow remind him, like NNAMDI AZIKIWE AND UKPABI ASIKA, "No condition is permanent".

Zik Gbemre.
