IT’S A BIG SHAME – THAT JAMES MANAGER COULD KNEEL DOWN BEFORE AN EX-CONVICT (JAMES IBORI), TO BEG FOR POLITICAL FAVOURS – THE SAD STATE OF THE MOST DELTA STATE POLITICIANS THAT STILL  ALLOW AN EX-CONVICT GODFATHER TO DECIDE FOR THEM

This is not just another public disgrace, but it also shows how shameless these politicians are, and how they have allowed godfatherism in Delta State politics to thrive…
Is it not an irony that a man who was jailed in the UK for misappropriating funds meant for the development of his people, has become a supposed kingmaker in Delta State…?

I am sure many of us must have seen the trending picture and video online, showing James Manager, a Nigerian Senator of the PDP Representing Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State in the Nigerian Senate, kneeling down before former Delta State Governor and ex-convict, James Onanefe Ibori, apparently asking for political favours. The same James Ibori who is an ex-convict that was jailed in the UK for gross corruption committed against the people of Delta State.

This is not just another public disgrace, but it also shows how shameless these politicians are, and how they have allowed godfatherism in politics to keep depriving the populace what is rightfully theirs, while enriching the few. This is the same Ibori, who was Governor of Delta state from 1999 to 2007, and was in 2012, sentenced to 13 years in prison for money laundering by a Crowns Court in the United Kingdom. It is that same Ibori, that James Manager, a supposed Senator, is "kneeling down" before him just because of his political ambition in Delta State to become a governor. What a shame!

Mind you, Senator James Manager is a man who has been in the Senate since 2003 (about 18 years now and still counting), and was a former Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport (1999-2003); former State Chairman PDP Delta State (1998-1999); former Chairman of GDM (1996-1998); former Hon. Commissioner for Social Development (1992-1993), and many other positions in the corridors of government. Yet, he is still not satisfied as an individual, to the point that he is ready to lick the floor of a former governor now ex-convict, so he could be blessed by his political godfather and grant his political future ambition. Again, I say, what a shame!

Is it not an irony, and rather an unfortunate circumstance, that a man who was jailed in the UK for mindlessly misappropriating funds meant for the development of his people, has become a kingmaker who must appoint a governor of Delta State? How did we get to this low point in the political life and electioneering process in Delta State?

I have said it several times that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, though they have their faults, but they are not actually our problem in Delta State. The Delta State elites and their insatiable quest to always look out for what they would gain from the Government, and not what they would contribute to the State’s growth, has been the problem in Delta State. They have classified Delta State to be in this level of underdevelopment.

How on earth do we expect Delta State to develop with these kinds of politicians, and open ignorance being displayed by the likes of Senator James Manager. The same James Manager who was once seen struggling on an Okada (Commercial motorcycle) to his home town in October, 2017. I still remember how that picture of him on the Okada went viral online. Which was yet another reminder to us, of how pathetic and degrading the deplorable underdevelopment situation in the Niger Delta region has become, and how dispassionate and unempathetic those in the helm of affairs, including the people have become.

The usual talk is Ibori is our brother, so leave him alone. But I think Ibori should be ashamed of himself, for even allowing James Manager to kneel before him to beg him for his Governorship aspiration. Why can't Ibori for once stay calm in his Oghara home town after his release from the UK prison? Ibori’s story is a known story to all across the nation and the globe, so there is no need to repeat it.

I have never seen anywhere in the world, where a person who was convicted by the all-mighty UK as a global power, for money laundering and fraud, and that person went to jail, but still comes out to become a supposed ‘HERO’ of his people, and a supposed kingmaker. No normal human being in his/her right senses would want to have anything to do with such an individual. Especially when the said person concerned, has not shown any sort of remorse, repentance to the atrocities he has committed against his State and people. That is the story of Ibori in Delta State.

The usual complaint has always been, why is Zik Gbemre always criticizing James Onanefe Ibori and his boys? But the real question and concern should be: Are we as a people, persistently ‘encouraging’ the coming generations to continue with the deplorable ways’ things are presently in Delta State? This should become a serious cause for concern for all because, if we continue to celebrate and sing praises of convicted thieves like Ibori, it means we are endorsing the coming generations to steal public funds meant for the development that would benefit all, and at the end of the day, they too will be celebrated and praised.

Agreed that James Ibori did not loot the Delta State treasury alone, because the likes of James Manager, who was his Commissioner of Works, David Edevbie who was his Commissioner of Finance, Ighoyota Amori was his Commissioner of Education; all aided/cooperated with Ibori to loot the Delta State treasury. And one would have expected them to be sober by now, especially after Ibori’s jail term in the UK. Sadly, they are all people that are without shame and honour, and they are ready to do anything just to continue feeding fat from the treasury of Delta State Government.
