IT IS A SHAME THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND STATE GOVERNORS ARE OVERWHELMED BY THE INSECURITY AND ECONOMIC CHALLENGES IN THE COUNTRY

When I saw recent reports that the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has decried the spate of insecurity in the country, which he said seems to have overwhelmed the Federal Government and State Governors, as he urged Nigerians to seek God’s face in prayers, for the solution to the litany of challenges, especially economic and insecurity, plaguing the country.

All I can say and conclude is that we have in our hands as Political leaders, people who are not ready, and are not willing to make the necessary sacrifice and create the room that would bring about the end of the economic and insecurity challenges facing the country.

To even think that the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, is urging Nigerians to Pray more, as if Prayers are now the only best solution to addressing these problems in the country, is simply unacceptable. When will Nigerians, including its political leaders, realize that Prayers, without corresponding actions, don’t change any situation. Our religious fanaticism and over zealousness have made us to think that Prayers can solve all of our problems. But we forget that even the Holy Writ, says that Prayers Without Works, is Dead. How can the Delta State Governor, obviously speaking for the Federal government and other State Governors, come out and tell Nigerians that they are Overwhelmed already with the insecurity situation in the country. And as such, they are calling on Nigerians to pray? How can they be saying that, when they have refused to do what is expected of them to address the economic and insecurity challenges facing the nation? How can they be rendering such message of hopelessness, and ineptitude on their part as political leaders, to the Nigerian public?

It is really shameful to even think that the Federal Government and State Governors are admitting that they are overwhelmed by insecurity and economic challenges in the country? If they are really overwhelmed, then they should do the needful by quietly quitting their Offices. This is what that statement made by Okowa, simply implies. It means the State Governors, and of course the President, should quit their Offices to give room for more competent hands that can address these challenges in the country.

Nobody placed a gun on the heads of these Political leaders to seek for Office and be elected as President and Governors in Nigeria. And if they can no longer stand the heat in the kitchen, then they should quit.

Sadly, it is only in this part of the world that we see political leaders doing everything possible to remain in Office, even when it is very obvious that they are inept and cannot handle the demands of their offices.

The public statement by Governor Okowa is admittance that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, and all the State Governments across the nation, have woefully failed to meet up to their primary responsibilities of protecting the lives and properties of the Nigerian citizenry. And as such, they do not deserve to remain one more day in their respective Offices. Especially when they are not willing to take good advice, or allow the influx of fresh ideas from concerned Stakeholders to address some of these problems, or not simply listening to the cries and voices of the people.

We can't have political leaders who are apparently visionless, and are bereft of modern ideas on how to address pressing problems in the country, continue leading us nowhere.
