HOW CAN DELTA STATE DEVELOP WHEN THOSE APPOINTED TO ADVISE THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER?

Is it not surprising that most of our Nigerian Political leaders at the State Government level, especially those in Delta State, are well-traveled, yet they are never thinking of replicating or bringing into their States, some of the things done by their counterparts in other developed societies in the US, UK and other European countries?
HOW CAN DELTA STATE DEVELOP WHEN THOSE APPOINTED TO ADVISE THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER?
Is it not surprising that most of our Nigerian Political leaders at the State Government level, especially those in Delta State, are well-traveled, yet they are never thinking of replicating or bringing into their States, some of the things done by their counterparts in other developed societies in the US, UK and other European countries? The simple reasons we can come up with to explain this is; it is either these Political leaders have surrounded themselves with sing-praisers, sycophants and bad advisers as Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) of this and that or Executive Assistant of one thing or the other. Or the Political leaders themselves are simply not interested in genuinely bringing ‘good governance’ into their State and leaving good legacies behind. We believe the latter (or even including the former), is the case of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa PDP-led administration in Delta State.
The saddest part is that, despite the fact that these Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Executive Assistants or whatever other names they go by, are supposed to be people with high level of intellectual capabilities, but in Delta State, about 90% of them are nothing but goons, stooges, hoodlums and people with empty brains. And unfortunately, Governor Okowa appoints these set of persons in the name of ‘creating jobs for the boys’, even when it is evident that they have absolutely nothing to offer to uplift the State Government or add any value to the State’s political and socio-economic bearings.
The simple criteria to be appointed amongst this train of so-called ‘Special Senior Assistants/Advisers’ to the Delta State Government, is that such persons must be ‘specialist in thuggery,’ and should be ready to do whatever that is required of them, even when it is illegal, to foster, promote and project the self-perpetuating interests of current Government of Delta State. But mind you, these people actually have nothing positive or worthy to offer to the Governor and the Commissioners, other than their thuggish activities.
The question is, how on earth will Delta State develop as expected, with these kinds of people in government rendering Advice to the Executive and Cabinet? What do they really have to offer? What do they have to advise in terms of innovative ideas and proper ways of doing things to improve the State’s economy? Of course nothing because you can't give what you don't have.
If we most move ahead as Deltans, then this culture of widespread “celebration of mediocrity”, sycophancy and supporting or singing praise of a dysfunctional government and its Officials (no matter how long it has been with us), have to be uprooted and done away with; both from the political leaders and the followers. We must first acknowledge the fact that we have a ‘big problem as Deltans’ in this regard, and then we can take the necessary steps in addressing them. Deltans should stop all the praise-singing and sycophancy for things to change for the good of all. Until we begin to tell our political leaders and ourselves the ‘truth’ as Deltans, mediocrity would continue to be enthroned as lord over all of us in Delta State.
