GOVERNOR OKOWA-LED GOVERNMENT AND ITS POLITICAL APPOINTMENT PRACTICE - EVIDENCE OF A CLUELESS/VISSIONLESS GOVERNMENT
I strongly do not think that any well-meaning Nigerian in Delta State, will be comfortable and happy with the frequent Political Appointments of practically every Politician and thug into the Delta State Government by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led Administration. This is the same Government that has been complaining of the adverse impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the Delta State economy. Yet, within the past few months we have seen the same Government carrying out more Political Appointments to add to its already over-bloated Government Appointees. One of which that got my attention recently was the appointment of Rt. Hon. Evelyn Omavowan Oboro, as so-called Special Adviser to the Governor on DESOPADEC matters.
One begins to wonder what exactly are the 'matters' of DESOPADEC that would require having a so-called Special Adviser to the Governor? With all the arrays of Special Advisers, Senior Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Senior Personal Assistants of this and that and what have you; what positive impact, or major difference have been brought to bear via the Delta State Government towards the improvement of the State's economy and the living standard of Deltans? Absolutely nothing but waste of public funds in the MAINTENANCE of this cumbersome Delta State Government Appointees.
Sometimes one is forced to ask: Can all the prominent and emerging politicians and political thugs in Delta State, especially those of the PDP stock, be appointed by the Governor Okowa-led Administration? But the most important question is: What money will be left by the Governor Okowa-led Government to pay gratuities of pensioners and use to maintain and build needed infrastructure in the State, when the maintenance of its Political Appointees is taking the chunk of public funds?
Must every politician in Delta State be appointed one thing or the other by the Okowa-led Administration, in the name of providing JOBS FOR LOYALTY? Is this how to govern a State that is in desperate need of basic amenities and an improved economy? The overwhelming numbers of Political Appointees in the Delta State Government and Public Service, are just too huge for any sensible Government to deliberately adopt as a practice that it wants to sustain. Practically most of the former Delta State Commissioners, former Delta State board members and former members of the Delta State House of Assembly which dates back since 1999, are appointed by the Okowa-led Government, as one thing or other. One begins to wonder what essential roles will these Political Appointees perform? Of course nothing tangible. All they know how to do is to earn fat salaries/allowances and frequently disturb Nigerians on our roads with their fleet of official cars.
How can we have a State Government where, practically most of the former PDP Executives at the national, State and local government levels are appointed by Governor Okowa as one thing or the other? How can we have a situation where all political thugs of PDP are appointed as one thing or the other in a Government that prides itself as a supposed Government that means business in transforming the State? How can that even be made possible? What sort of innovative policies and practices can these kind of Politicians and political thugs produce and bring about in the State Government to effect the needed changes? Obviously none! Because all they can evidently exhibit is to sit idle with no relevant function. These so-called appointees of Okowa are given cars bought with State funds, to just drive around town and form part of the entourage/motorcade of Governor Okowa. Why waste public funds meant for development in this manner? Why waste scarce State wealth on idle politicians who are given useless portfolios with no meaningful and relevant function?
Like I have reiterated several times, these are evidence of a clueless and visionless Government that practically has nothing else to offer to the people that supposedly brought them into office. Apparently, the remaining years of Governor Okowa in Office is going to be MORE WASTFUL, since it is daily becoming more obvious that indeed, we have in our hands, a Government that is clueless and has no vision to govern as expected of any serious-minded State Government. As sad as this may sound, that is the unfortunate situation Deltans have put themselves in.

We Mobilize Others To Fight For Individual Causes As If Those Were Our Causes
