FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR NIGERIAN LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS

As I have reiterated severally, agreed that the Chinese are one of the most heartless, racists, wicked and self-interest-driven race who are ready to do anything to get what they want at any cost, and foster their socio-economic growth, but the truth is that it is the Africans, and in this case our Nigerian political leaders, that gave them the window and opportunity to come and dominate the African continent. And as we speak, they are GRADUALLY TAKING OVER AFRICAN ECONOMIES. For instance, a country that just keeps receiving money from anybody (in this case – China), will ultimately fulfil the agenda of their benefactors. Like they say, he that pays the piper dictates the tune – be it indirectly or directly. This is exactly what we are seeing happen now. And if the African political leaders and its people do not change their ways, the situation will get worse to our detriment. The conditions usually tied to loans collected from China, is more of an enslavement. When they borrow money to any developing country, they include conditions like they must bring in their skilled and unskilled labour for the execution of such projects. At the end, everything is imported from China – from the labour force to the materials and equipment for the projects. It is more of a “Chinese Content” development than that of Nigerian Content development, when it comes to loans from China.

A few days ago, a friend of my told me how he visited a Nigerian politician in Osubi near Warri in Delta State, and the said politician was flaunting his wealth with pride, as he showed him the latest cars in his magnificent compound, and even boasted that the said cars are the latest in the world, which only himself and few persons own such cars in Nigeria. The question is, what is a single man doing with 20 to 50 cars, all parked idle in his fancy garage canopies? This is supposed to be a public officer, who should be concerned about the current deplorable plight of his people in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, most of whom cannot eat a good meal a day. But here he is, flaunting his wealth as if it is one great achievement. Yet, all around such persons are poverty-stricken people.

Perhaps, we need to ask our ourselves, what often goes wrong with the Nigerian political leaders, who once they are elected or appointed in public office, they become mindlessly foolish and insatiable greedy? If the Chinese, most of whom are with no formal or little education, can develop themselves to where they are today, then why can't Nigerian and African politicians and elites that are well educated, develop themselves and their societies?

I think the real problem with Nigerians and Africans, are not China and its people. Yes, the Chinese have their heartless tendencies, but that should not make Nigerians and Africans not to think properly. It is because of the gross deficiencies, dereliction of statutory roles and irresponsibility amongst Nigerian/African political leaders, that other nations like China and the rest, are taking advantage of this situation in the country and Africa to continually exploit and do with us as they see please. The problem is not only with the leaders, but also the followers who are short-sighted, and have refused to demand accountability from their leaders. Both the political leaders and followers always like those who tell them lies, and deceive them. But they tag the person who tells the truth, as the real problem.

Africa has not been able to develop as she ought to because majority of its past and present political leaders have refused to/or they do not see the need/or they do not understand the importance of; investing in its people to have “a collective contribution” towards economic growth and development. Political leaders and Governance failures are what have been driving Africa backwards. Are the ‘Asian Tigers’ endowed with the sort of rich minerals we have in some countries in Africa? How about countries like Taiwan? How did the United Arab Emirates (UAE) convert desert lands to tourist destinations of the world? How did they do it? If Nigerian/African political leaders are serious, whatever these countries have done to be where they are today, is what they should be emulating. Sadly, that is not what many African countries are doing.

Truth is, if the Nigerian/African leaders and elites invest on viable productive businesses and factories, and stop their crazy love for flashy exotic cars and magnificent mansions, and the followers demand for accountability from them; we are certain that things will be different in the country and the African continent. And not viewing critics as the enemies of the government and the elites. If things are done this way, African countries like Nigeria will not need the like of China and its people, to do everything for us. As for me, the Chinese remain the most wicked and heartless people that cannot be trusted at all. And we can make them become very Irrelevant to the country, if our political leaders mean well for its citizenry in their actions and governance.

I also believe that Nigerians should be proud of the legitimate jobs they do, no matter the little or no education they have, and which they use to earn such an honest living. And the political leaders should not look down on the poor people, regardless of what they do. Every person cannot be a medical doctor and a lawyer. Every person cannot be an Engineers as well. The Chinese, and other foreign developed countries cannot build Nigeria and Africa for us. That onerous task can only be done by us. Pretence and hypocrisy cannot do it for us.
