DIESEL @ N700 PER LITRE: A NATION HEADING TO TIPPING POINT

I bought a litre of diesel for N700, precisely on Wednesday, 16th March 2022 afternoon. It wasn't from the black market. It was dispensed from the fuel pump of a Warri retail outlet of Matrix Energy, a major player in the downstream sector. I asked myself, what a country?

Matrix and a few high profile filling stations sell refined fuel at a controlled pump price in Delta. So if Matrix sells a litre of diesel at N700 per litre, it means the situation is getting out of hand.

How do we expect businesses to thrive since power generation, transmission and distribution have collapsed?

Most businesses, small factories depend on diesel to power their generators to run their operations. A lot of businesses will close down if this trend continues and unemployment will worsen.

Buhari led Federal government of Nigeria should not be so insensitive to the extent of aggravating the already unbearable hardships in the country.

A nation that produces abundant crude oil, condensate and natural gas continues to depend on imported fuels from nations that only refine crude oil they import from producing nations, including Nigeria.

What Nigeria sells to these countries is what they refine and export back to Nigeria at higher prices. Does that make any economic or leadership sense?

I dare to say Nigerian leaders at all levels, including lawmakers at all tiers, are morons. They have no clue about governance one bit. But with impunity growing higher as they continue to display the arrogance of failure, it is heading to a tipping point.

When that time comes, nobody will find it funny.
