DELTA STATE IS INDEED TIRED OF IBORI

In what I would describe as an interesting twist of events, which took place during a Sunday service on November 1st, 2020, when The General Overseer of Promise Kingdom Ministry, Sapele, Delta State – Bishop Godday Okokporo, fearlessly and boldly told former Governor James Ibori to his face - that the state is tired of him.

This is something that I have been crying out for years now, which made many think that Zik Gbemre has personal issues with Ibori. But far from it. And I am glad that finally, someone else, who is a minister of the gospel, has developed the courage to tell the bitter truth to Ibori's face.

Some might say it is hate speech, or they may think whatever they like because the said Bishop has boldly and fearlessly told Ibori the truth. Which is, that the Delta State people are tired of his leadership role in Delta State. But like I said, until we decide to tell ourselves the truth, no matter how bitter and unpalatable it is, mediocrity and backwardness will continue to remain the portions in this Delta State.

It is a known fact that since 1999 till date, James Ibori has held Delta State hostage with his self-perpetuating interests in the State's politics - which avails him unhindered access to public funds, fringe benefits and control of everything else in the State's political life.

You cannot aspire or become the governor of Delta State without Ibori's node, approval and influence. It has been that bad in the last decade or so. You cannot be Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), or Chief of Staff without his approval. You can't be the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly without Ibori having a major say and approval. Delta State is practically owned by Ibori in his own imagination. Without him realizing that Patriotic Deltans are really tired of his stronghold in the State's politics and economic well-being.

The said Bishop also advised Ibori to use wisdom to bring his politics to an end, and allow the state to move on in the natural way. And that people believe that he cannot be the father of the state forever. In his words: "It is better if I am to advise you; retire. If you retire, you have more background, you have more fame, you have more honour than what you see ahead.”

It is only a wise man that should know that it is always better to quit the stage when the ovation is loudest.

This is the only pastor/minister of God in the entire Delta State, who has spoken the truth to James Ibori about his godfatherism in Delta state. They say he who has ears, let him hear. Ibori should call himself to order and stop dictating to Delta State and its political processes and experience.

Zik Gbemre.
