COVID-19 PUBLIC ENDANGER AT EKAKPAMRE IN UGHELLI SOUTH LGA - AS MUSLIMS GUARDED BY SOLDIERS, VICIOUSLY FLOUT WITH MAGISTERIAL ARROGANCE, THE MOVEMENT RESTRICTIONS/ LOCKDOWN ORDER AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IMPOSED BY THE DELTA GOVERNMENT FOR THE SAFETY OF NIGERIANS
I believe that the law should not be seen to be selective in its enforcement, irrespective of who is involved, or the religion concerned, whether Christianity, Islam or Traditionalists. Which is why I consider it a complete disregard of measures put in place by the Delta State Government to curtail the possible spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, when Muslims in Ekakpamre of Ughelli South LGA, Delta State, decided to go about their religious prayers in the Mosque in the midst of a lockdown order - thereby jeopardizing the safety of others.
This is totally unacceptable, and should be condemned by all. We all know Churches are closed to keep the society safe in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic. So also, the Mosques in Delta State should be closed too. And we wonder why is the Delta State Government turning a blind eye on the Mosques that were opened for worship in some parts of Delta State on Friday 24th April 2020, despite the State Government lockdown order and restrictions of movement?
I was reliably informed that the DPO of Otu-Jeremi Police Division, was alerted about this development in Ekakpamre, and he went with his men, and politely asked Imam Mohammed Okotie who is in-charge of the said Mosque at Ekakpamre Town,Ughelli South to stop the gathering in the prayer session. The said DPO also invited the said Imam of the Ekakpamre Mosque, who is an Urhobo man, but he defiled the order of the DPO. I was also told that the Muslim worshippers were numbering over one hundred. This is outrightly against the Government's directive on social distancing and public gathering. The DPO Otu-Jeremi Division in Ughelli Sputh was even polite and professional in handling this issue, so as to avoid any possible crises. But up till now, the said Imam Mohammed Okotie of Ekakpamre Mosque, Ughelli South has refused to obey and honour the invitation of the DPO Otu-Jeremi Police Division in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State.
This is not right in whatever angles we look at it. The said Imam Mohammed Okotie and his members in Ekakpamre in Ughelli South LGA, should not be allowed to endanger the lives of the people in the said area and the entire State. Something should be done about this by the higher authorities in Delta State Government and Security Agencies.
