BEN AYADE GOOFED

With recent reports that the public in Cross Rivers State numbering over 15, 000 had broken into the Cross River State government uncompleted Fabrication Academy and other places, and carted away thousands of COVID-19 palliative meant for people of the state, and that the Cross River State Governor Senator Ben Ayade has ordered security agencies in the state to search houses to recover looted items and take action to halt the violence, I must say that Governor Ayade has goofed big time with such house-to-house search directive. The first question is, why would the said COVID-19 palliative meant for the people be hoarded all this while when people are seriously hungry? While I understand that this development was also recorded in different States across the nation, but it is just sad that in the Cross Rivers State example, Ayade as Governor, has ordered a house-to-house search. What do we call that? This situation justifies the fact that the poverty in the land is deliberately caused and induced by these politicians.

One would have thought that being a youth, Ayade ought to be a role model to the Nigerian youths in his style of governance. Sadly, that has not been the case. He has seriously goofed with this latest directive. As a well-educated and well-exposed politician who has a good relationship with the oil multinationals, I was not expecting this sort of action and style of governance by Governor Ayade. To put it mildly, Governor Ayade has failed the youths of Cross Rivers State and Nigeria. And I am not the only one who think so.

In a well-circulated video online, one Felix Asuquo from Cross Rivers State who currently lives in the US, and works as an investigator with a County Sheriff, note how he has been observing and following the protests in Nigeria and in Cross Rivers State in particular. He delivered his message specifically to Governor Ayade and his cohorts. In his words: "Since the inception of Governor Ayade's government, all that he is known for is lies and lies. He has signed the most MoUs ever known by anyone in leadership positions around the world. He has been the one who has proposed to do the most bogus projects, and none of them has been accomplished. He has employed thousands of youths but only in audio as none has been accomplished. All he did was to come and steal from the people of Cross Rivers State.

"Ayade decided to appoint puppets into managing local government affairs, five years after he became governor. Yet he still had the gut and mind, through his adviser on media publicity, to say that he has spoken to all the security operatives in Cross Rivers State to start searching people's houses. I think you have lost your mind. If you need to start calling people thieves, then we need to start from you. Ayade, after all the lies, you decided to hold back the palliative meant for hungry Cross Riverians. You have used the power of the media to deceive Cross Riverians, to deceive Nigerians as a whole by coming on media to cry of how you care about Cross Rivers State.

"Yet, you have reduced the State to the lowest point ever. You have used the youths. You came in as a youth and said that you want to be the governor that would employ youths. You came and employed youths and used them against ourselves because of your selfish interests. You have manipulated these people's minds. None of the people you have employed can use their Ministries to effect any change because you are not a governor but a dictator. Governor Ayade and his Security authorities should halt their decision. For he is setting himself up for failure as a governor. Stop the plans to search people's homes and arrest them... You should go back to the drawing board and figure out what needs to be done because there's work to be done..."

I believe it is necessary for the Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade, to heed the advice given and stop this so-called house-to-house search for palliative meant for the people in the first place. If the Governor and his administration have been up and doing what is expected of them, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic hardship that came with it, I don't think we would be talking about people breaking into warehouses to loot these palliatives. It is not to come on TV and radio to perform publicity stunts aimed at deceiving the people, but it is to actually be seen as faithful and accountable in the management of public wealth as public officeholders.
